San Felipe
One of San Felipe's claim to fame are the extreme tidal changes. When the tide goes out, it goes way out! This is excellent for beachcombers and long, quiet walks. Shelling is also a popular activity and one which you'll have a head start. But after you are done with the hustle and bustly of our small city, you can relax in the country, gaze at the stars and the wide open space. The weather in San Felipe is very pleasant most of the year, but it can be hot and humid in the summer. Fortunately, the Sea of Cortez is never too far away for a refreshing dip and at La Joya del Mar, it's a stones throw to the beach. Sleeping under the stars is a great way to enjoy the evenings all year long. The Port of San Felipe traditionally depended on fishing and shrimping for its economic base. In a little more than ten years, the base has changed from fishing to tourism to development of residential communities as you've never seen before. The natural attractions of this area, it's beautiful beaches and temperate water during the spring, summer and fall, plus it's pleasant winter weather, is the major draw for both Snowbirds (retirees who live part-time in Mexico during the fall and winter months) and weekend vacationers from southern California and Arizona. Many of our old timers will tell you San Felipe has grown in leaps and bounds. We were featured in Time Magazine in 1991, and it's never been the same. Of course, the value of the property has increased dramatically and costs of construction are much higher now than in 1991. Nevertheless, you will not find a more beautiful property than La Joya del Mar for half the price you would pay in the United States.
